INAUGURATION OF ICT CELL & ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON DIGITAL RESOURCES IN EDUCATION - November 10, 2022

          INAUGURATION OF ICT CELL
Science and technology has developed in the modern world like never before. The pace with which it accelerates in the present times is beyond one could measure. The influence of Science and Technology in educational field is undoubtedly obvious. As prospective teachers, it is of utmost importance that one transforms oneself into a techno pedagogue, so as to adapt to the changing teaching atmosphere of today.

The Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, had its ICT cell inaugurated on November 10, 2022 at the General Hall of the campus. Ms. Mariya George of I B.Ed rendered the prayer song. The welcome speech was presented by Revathy B R, followed by the inauguration and inaugural address delivered by Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, the Principal of GCTE. Dr.Rajashree K, Staff Council Secretary of GCTE, offered felicitation. The inaugural session ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Jessy M, I B.Ed student.

      ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON 'DIGITAL                  RESOURCES IN EDUCATION'

The inaugural session was followed by a one day workshop for B.Ed students on the topic 'Digital Resources in Education'. Dr. Jayakrishna K and Dr. Praveena M, Assistant professors of GCTE, were the resource persons of the day. The first session was handled by Dr. Praveena M at the Computer Lab. The session began with familiarising the terms 'Digital Natives' and 'Digital Immigrants'. The students were then given a comprehensive class on e- resources which include e-books, e-journals, e-dissertation, e- newspapers, e-databases and so on. The next topic discussed by the teacher was Blogs. 

The peculiarity of the workshop was that all the students were given a hands-on experience. The students got to do things on their own, thereby gaining a practical experience of all the taught concepts. The second session of the day was handled by Dr. Jayakrishna K. This session dealt with the creation of Google documents, questionaires, quizzes, Google classroom and such. Assignments were also given by the teacher for the students to put to practice what they have learned. Both the sessions were highly engaging and extremely beneficial.

FILM FESTIVAL AND BEST FILM CRITIC                         COMPETITION   A film festival and a film critic competition were held by the Film Club of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, on 23 November, 2022 at the UGC hall of the campus. By 3.30 pm, the student teachers and teachers of GCTE assembled at the UGC hall and the film screening began. Two short films were chosen for the screening - Aasai directed by Sam and Tippen Box directed by Karthik Gopal. Both were Tamil short films with English subtitles. The club had the plan to show the Disney animated movie Encanto as well; however the technical difficulties did not make this happen.      PATHWAY - SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS                       PROGRAMME 2022-23 The Department of Minority Welfare that works under the Kerala Government had organised a three day session with the title "Pathway - Social Life Wellness Programme" at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Trivandrum on January 17th , 18th and 19th, 2023. Our college was one among the selected institutions to host the programme.  On the first day, after the morning prayer, Dr. Isaac Paul, Assistant Professor of GCTE, welcomed the gathering. "THODAYAM" : ARTS DAY - 21, 22 February, 2023

                Thodayam : Arts Fest   Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, witnessed an amazing, colourful gala, THODAYAM 2023 , on 21 and 22 February, 2023 at the UGC hall of the campus.  The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song by Mariya of I B.Ed. Mrs Asha Krishan, the Arts Convenor of GCTE, delivered the welcome speech. This was followed by Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, the Principal's presidential address. The chief guest of the day was Smt. Vinitha V, Lecturer in Dance, Sree Swathi Tirunal College of Music. She inaugurated the event and also performed for the audience.
