The Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is observed every year on 26 November. The Constitution of India was formally adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November, 1949,  and it came into force on 26 January, 1950. Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, observed the Samvidhan Divas on 28 December, since 26th December was a holiday for the college. The programmes were organised by the Social Science Association of the college at the the Research Room.

The programme began with the prayer song by Mariya, I B.Ed student. This was followed by an introductory speech on the day by Ancila. The historical events that eventually led to the formation of Indian Constitution were discussed in this speech. The students of the association, along with the other student teachers and teaching faculty, sang Vande Mataram to evoke the patriotic spirit in each and every one. Later, Sandhya read out the Preamble and presented its importance to the audience.

An elaborate presentation of the Fundamental Rights was indeed enlightening. Right to Equality, covered under Articles 14 to 18, was discussed by Remya. Right against Exploitation (Articles 23 and 24), Right to Freedom of Religion (Articles 25 to 28) and Cultural and Educational Rights (Articles 29 to 30) were further discussed by Sudheera, Sandhya and Sini respectively. Finally, the Right to Constitutional Remedies, said in Article 32 and that which Ambedkar values the most, was presented by Mariya.

The Fundamental Duties of every citizen were elaborated by Mary Antony. An oath was then taken by everyone to abide by the Constitution and to follow the values put forward by it. Finally, a small quiz was conducted by Praveen based on all the presentations done. The programme came to an end with the National Anthem sung by all the participants.
