SCHOOL INDUCTION ORIENTATION - 21 December, 2022
SCHOOL INDUCTION ORIENTATION
As prospective teachers, the time has approached for the student teachers of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, to embark on a new phase of their career. A one week school induction programme has been scheduled for the student teachers from January 4 to 9. Since it is an entirely new experience for the novice teachers, a proper orientation was provided for us by the teachers of GCTE.
The programme was hosted by Parvathy, I B.Ed student. The entire session was cordinated by Mrs. Shaiba, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit. She was the one who prepared the list of the schools and the students who opted each one of them. It was Shaiba teacher who gave a comprehensive introduction on the school induction programme. Then, Dr.Joly S, the Vice Principal of GCTE, addressed the students. She made it clear as to how a teacher should and should not be. Joly teacher talked to us about the changing scenarios in the schools of the present day. It made the student teachers even more prepared to approach the school children in the right way.
All the teachers then provided their own ideas and advices regarding the school induction programme. Mrs. Asha Krishnan, Smt. Sheena Elizabeth Varghese, Mrs. Chitralekha, Mrs. Jayakrishna, Dr. Isaac Paul, Mr. Jithin Prem and Dr. Praveena Maheshwari talked to the student teachers. A detailed idea of what each student teacher is expected to do was given by all the teachers.
The student teachers are supposed to attend the school induction for a period of five continuous days with mandatory attendance. Various factors of the selected school are to be analysed by us. The preservation of registers, the number of students, the annual results, infrastructure, extra curricular and co curricular activities, etc. of the school are covered under the student teacher's detailed analysis. Three shared classes are to be taken by the student teachers. The topic, either selected by them or given by the teachers of the school, are to be divided among the members of a group, and then to be taught. The student teachers are also supposed to observe the classes taken by the teachers of the school, thereby analysing the strategies and qualities of a teacher. Each and every one of us are asked to maintain a diary or reflective journal to record each day's happenings and to suggest improvement opportunities to oneself. We are also assigned to update blog entries on each day we spend in the school.
