THE JOLLY HOLLIES : GCTE's CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION - 22 December, 2022

                THE JOLLY HOLLIES 2022

Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, had its best Christmas ever this year. The Jolly Hollies 2022 was nothing short of a celebration. The preparations began weeks before. From planning, practicing and organizing every program, the students of I B.Ed put their heart and soul for the success of this program.

CHRISTMAS CRIB

The Christmas celebrations began with the crib making. From collecting items, purchasing embellishments and the final assembling, the making of crib was indeed a fun filled experience. Krishna Kumar and Praveen Kumar of I B.Ed were the leading members of crib making. The framework was first made with bamboo sticks and tree branches; it was then covered and neatly woven into the best crib ever. The adding of lights made it even more beautiful. The crib was set in front of the General Hall, almost at the middle of the corridor.

THE INAUGURAL CEREMONY

The celebrations began by 10 am on 22 December, 2022. The UGC hall was decorated by the students the day before. Balloons, Colourful Ribbons, Christmas Tree with lights, Wall hangings and Stars adorned the hall. Jessy M, I B.Ed student, hosted the event. The day began with the prayer song rendered by Mariya George. This was followed by the welcome speech by Sandhya. The Principal of GCTE, Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, then offered the presidential address. The chief guest of the day was Rev. (Fr) Sunil M John, Vicar, Salem Marthoma Church, Vazhuthacaud. Father inaugurated the event and also delivered his beautiful Christmas message for us. Felicitations were then delivered by Dr. Joly S, the Vice Principal of GCTE; Dr. Isaac Paul, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, and Mr. Manoj Kumar, the Superintendent of GCTE. Praveen Kumar, Chairman of GCTE; Vishnu G, M.Ed student representative, and G S Smitha Nair, Research Scholar, also delivered their felicitations. Sibana S, UUC of College Union, presented the vote of thanks.

OUR SANTA - THE STAR OF THE DAY

Christmas without Santa Claus is never complete. Kavya Sagar, the multi talented student of I B.Ed, rocked the stage as the Santa of GCTE. She made the audience go crazy. The energy and charisma spread by our Santa made the entire audience clap and dance. She danced amazingly to a number of hit malayalam songs. Santa also distributed gifts and sweets to the audience. Our Santa Claus was undoubtedly the best part of this Christmas.

THE CHRISTMAS CAROL

The next highlight of the day was the Christmas Carol by I B.Ed students. It was a visual treat to watch all of them in red and white, singing in unison with such beauty. Their songs indeed spread the joyful vibe of Christmas all around. The song selection requires special mention. The Carol came out so well that the entire audience enjoyed and appreciated the effort that went into it.

DANCE AND GAMES

Then was the time of dance and games. Energetic group dances came from the part of both the I B.Ed and M.Ed students. The dancers were cheered by the audience. Several games were also a part of our celebrations. The students engaged in entertaining games played with simple and everyday objects. Small prizes were also given to the winners. In addition to this, Mary Antony and Alfiya of I B.Ed won the prediction competition organised in connection with FIFA WORLD CUP 2022 and their prizes were also distributed on this occasion.

THE NATIVITY PLAY

The students of I B.Ed consider it a great blessing to have come up with a nativity play. Mariya George was the captain of our ship. It is her guidance and support that made the play possible. The help rendered by Sandhya, Krishna Kumar and Rakendu is worth mentioning. The rehearsals of the play began much before. Characters were righty attributed to the participants and everything from the costumes, props, to the stage settings were arranged properly. The play was divided into six scenes with commentary in between. It was indeed a great experience for all of us to be a part of this piece of art.

THE TREASURE HUNT

The Treasure Hunt marked an exciting showdown for the day's celebrations. The students of I B.Ed were divided into three teams. Each team was asked to pick a colour code for them; all the six clues for the team were of the colour each one selects. The clues were well arranged and placed by the members of the union, prior to the students entering the campus. It was indeed an amazing experience finding clues, working with our team and finally winning the treasure. We were so glad that it was our team who found the treasure the fastest.

THAT MANDATORY GROUP FRAME

That was Jolly Hollies 2022 - the best ever Christmas GCTE has witnessed.
