TRIANGLE TRIBUTE AND NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY CELEBRATION - 20 December, 2022
TRIANGLE TRIBUTE
Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, in association with the Mathematics Association, conducted a programme under the title "Triangle Tribute" as part of the National Mathematics Day celebrations. This was a mathematical creative contest where the students, divided into various groups, were asked to put their creativity in coming up with an art that is entirely made of traingles. Within the one hour given to the five teams, each team was asked to create something with no other shapes but triangles. White charts were provided by the organizing committee. Participant numbers were given to each team. Creativity and originality of the work, accuracy in drawing triangles, theme of the work, neatness, clarity and the overall impression of the work were the criteria for evaluation. All the five teams came up with highly creative and brilliant work. The team work of each group was greatly evident in all the five pieces of art and accuracy. The competition ended with the National Anthem sung by all the participants.
National Mathematics Day is observed annually on December 22 to mark the anniversary of the eminent Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. He was a self-taught mathematician and one of the greatest Indian mathematicians of all time. Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, observed National Mathematics Day on 21 December, 2022, at the Research Room. The programme was hosted by Aswathy. The prayer song was rendered by Mahima and Sruthy. Keerthana Anil presented the biography of Ramanujan and talked on the importance of the day. Finally, the winners of the Triangle Tribute competition were announced and prized were distributed by Dr. Joly S, Vice Principal of GCTE.
