      School Induction Programme : Day 1


As per the curriculum of the B.Ed course, the student teachers are supposed to attend a five day induction programme in any one of the schools in the proximity of one's college. Today, 4th January, was the first day of our school induction. The student teachers of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, were given choices of schools from which everyone had to select one. As per the selections made, the students were alloted to each school and memo was sent to the respective Head Masters to accomodate us. 


Eight of us (Four students from English department, two from the department of Tamil, and two from Natural Science department) from GCTE chose Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Karamana, for our induction programme. We reached the school by 9 am and the classes began by 9.30 am. There were no proper assembly as such. As soon as the morning bell rang, a group of students sang the prayer song, and then one of them uttered the pledge which all the others repeated. Then the classes began.

As soon as we reached the school, we met the Principal, Mr. Venugopalan M G. Then we walked in to the room of the Headmistress, Mrs.Mini P V. She welcomed us to the school, interacted with us and also led us to the staff room. There, we met and spoke to our respective subject teachers. We discussed with them and seeked permission to observe their classes. Since two student trainees from another college were handling classes for 8th and 9th classes, we spoke with them and decided on the portions that we are to cover within the five days of the induction programme. Two class observations and three shared classes are mandatory as per the curriculum.


We spent the rest of the time examining and familiarising the school and its surroundings. We saw the classrooms, walked through the corridors and school ground, assessed the facilities, and gained an overall idea of the school. The environment was comparatively calm and relaxed. The required details of the school were noted down. The first day of the school induction programme was a memorable day indeed for the student teachers of GCTE.

FILM FESTIVAL AND BEST FILM CRITIC                         COMPETITION   A film festival and a film critic competition were held by the Film Club of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, on 23 November, 2022 at the UGC hall of the campus. Two short films were chosen for the screening - Aasai directed by Sam and Tippen Box directed by Karthik Gopal. Both were Tamil short films with English subtitles.      PATHWAY - SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS                       PROGRAMME 2022-23 The Department of Minority Welfare that works under the Kerala Government had organised a three day session with the title "Pathway - Social Life Wellness Programme" at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Trivandrum on January 17th , 18th and 19th, 2023. Our college was one among the selected institutions to host the programme.  On the first day, after the morning prayer, Dr. Isaac Paul, Assistant Professor of GCTE, welcomed the gathering. "THODAYAM" : ARTS DAY - 21, 22 February, 2023

                Thodayam : Arts Fest   Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, witnessed an amazing, colourful gala, THODAYAM 2023 , on 21 and 22 February, 2023 at the UGC hall of the campus.  The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song by Mariya of I B.Ed. Mrs Asha Krishan, the Arts Convenor of GCTE, delivered the welcome speech. This was followed by Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, the Principal's presidential address. The chief guest of the day was Smt. Vinitha V, Lecturer in Dance, Sree Swathi Tirunal College of Music. She inaugurated the event and also performed for the audience. It was indeed a visual treat to witness the magic of her dance performance.
