School Induction Programme: Day 2 - January 5, 2023
School Induction Day 2
Today, 5th January 2023, was the second day of the school induction programme for the student teachers of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram. We reached our school, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Karamana, by 9.15 am. We entered the Headmistress' office and signed the attendance register. Breakfast was served by the teachers to the students as part of the government's special scheme. With the prayer song and the pledge, the classes of the day began by 9.30 am.
We, the three students of English Department, observed two classes today during the first and the fifth hours. Manju Ma'am, the English teacher of High School, engaged the first hour in 7th standard. She began a new unit for the students which was in the form of a script. We observed how orderly and clear her teaching style is. She managed the class with ease and engaged the students very well. The next hour that we got to observe was by Padmakumar Sir, the Malayalam teacher of High School section. His bold and sonorous voice was indeed his peculiarity. It was with utmost lucidity and preciseness that he managed his class for the 8th standard students. Thus, we completed the mandatory two hour class observations today.
Our first shared class was taken today for the 8th standard students. We prepared the portion alloted to us the previous day and presented it with the help of teaching aids. We prepared a detailed lesson plan on the portion that we are to cover, and could successfully complete it within the 40 minutes time of the given period. Mrs. Bindhu, the English teacher, was in the classroom to observe our presentation. We could create a good rapport with the students and the assigned portion was transacted to them in the best way we could. It was the first opportunity for us to engage a class. The experience was indeed beneficial to understand the current system and the child behavioural patterns.
We spent the rest of the time planning for the next day's class and collecting necessary data about the school. Once the final bell rang, we signed the attendance sheet at the Headmistress' office and departed from the school.
