School Induction Programme : Day 3 - January 6, 2023

              School Induction Day 3

Today, January 6, 2023, was the third day of the school induction programme for the student teachers of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram. We, the seven students who chose Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Karamana, reached the school by 9.15 am. First we signed the attendance sheet at the Headmistress' office. Breakfast was being served to the students, after which everyone went to their respective classes. The bell rang at 9.30 am and the classes began after a prayer song and the pledge.

Today was comparatively a hectic day for us. We had class duty in the first two periods at the 5th and the 9th classes. In the 5th standard, we interacted with the students, created a rapport with them, and made them play a word game. The students enthusiastically participated in it. Then we went to the 9 A classroom. We introduced ourselves and got to know them. We made them talk about their ambition in life and the students presented it very well. The third hour was a free hour for us. So we utilized this time to prepare for our second shared class. The fourth hour was the time for our second shared class at 8th standard. The chapter "The School for Sympathy" that we began in the previous class was continued. Lesson plan was prepared and teaching aids were used.

Post lunch break, we had an hour free. We discussed lessons and made preparations for the coming two days. We were given duty during the second last hour at 5th standard. It being the PTE period, the students were given free time to play silently inside their classroom; they were not taken to the playground because the PTE teacher could not make it to school today. The last hour was free and we utilized this time to collect relevant data about the school that are needed for our report.

During one of our free hours, the NSS students from Higher Secondary section approached us with some of their handmade creations. They first gave us the കില്ലാടി പാവ that they made in connection with the Anti drug campaign of the school. The toy was symbolic of the strong wall that is to be built against the overpowering influence of drugs on the students of this generation. We felt that it was very creative and thoughtful of them to have come up with something like this. They also sold us small diyas that they made. We talked with them and came to know of the various activities initiated by the NSS unit of the school.

After the final bell at 3.30 pm, we signed the attendance sheet at the Headmistress' office. We left the school by 3.45 pm. Thus the third day of the school induction came to an end.
