School Induction Programme : Day 4 - January 7, 2023
School Induction Day 4
Today, 7 January 2023, was the fourth day of the school induction programme for the students of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram. We reached the school by 9.15 am and signed the attendance sheet at the Headmistress' office. Food was being served to the students, after which the first bell rang at 9.25 am. Classes began after the prayer song and pledge by the students.
We engaged the students in the hour alloted to us by the teachers. However, today was mainly devoted for the collection of school data and the analysis of records. Padmakumar Sir, the Senior Assistant and a Malayalam teacher of the school, helped us with the details. Being a teacher with an experience of almost 15 years in the school, every detail and information about the school was safe in his hands. We talked to him, shared all our queries, which he answered patiently. Much of the needed information was provided by him.
Once the bell rang for the lunch break, we went to the room where food was served to students as part of the mid-day meal programme. We talked with Shobhana Anty who cooks food for the students of Karamana Girls School for the past 35 years. She talked to us about the menu, the food that is usually served and what are avoided from it. Today being Saturday, the strength was comparatively low. The students who were present today came running with their plates and took their food to the classrooms. Today's menu comprised of Rice, Aviyal and Pulisseri.
Then we came to know about the National Green Corps programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests of Government of India covering around 1,20,000 schools in India with NGC School Eco Clubs. Environmental activity in schools in India is promoted through the National Green Corps. The NGC Students participate in activities related to Biodiversity Conservation, Water Conservation, Energy Conservation, Waste Management and Land Use Planning and Resource Management. We were happy to know that the school is a significant part of this programme. We were also informed that there were other clubs like the Souhrida Club, the activities of which are in full swing in the school.
We then went to see the school auditorium. It was located on the topmost floor of the school building. It was a spacious hall with a stage in it. It was properly maintained and kept. We could also see some plants there. Saplings of some vegetables were taken care of in the auditorium space.
The final bell rang at 3.30 pm. The students started to disperse after the National Anthem. We signed the attendance sheet at the Headmistress' office and left the school. Thus ended the fourth day of our school induction programme.
