Session on HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
The Women's Cell of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, in collaboration with Kerala Women's Commission, organized a session on 'Healthy Relationships' on 11 January, 2023, at the General Hall 2 of the campus. The programme began by 2 pm; all the dignitaries, teachers and student teachers assembled in the hall on time.
It was indeed a proud moment for GCTE Thycaud to have Advocate P Satheedevi, honourable Chair Person of Kerala Women's Commission, as the chief guest of the programme. The programme began with a silent prayer. This was followed by the welcome speech delivered by Sheena Elizabeth Varghese, the Assistant Professor and the Convenor of GCTE's Women's Cell. The principal, Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, delivered the presidential address. Our chief guest, Adv. Satheedevi, inaugurated the session. She also distributed the prizes to the winners of the poster making competition conducted by the Natural Science department for the school students. This was followed by the felicitations offered by Adv. Indira Raveendran, member of Kerala Women's Commission, and Dr. Jayakrishna K, the Staff Secretary.
Then began the session on 'Healthy Relationships' handled Aswathy F S, Assistant Centre Manager and Counsellor of Career Development Centre, Neyyatinkara. She talked in depth about the importance of handling healthy relations in life and also the ways to maintain it. She discussed Healthy relations, Unhealthy relations and Toxic relations. The various dimensions of each of these were discussed and activities were also given to students to better understand which among these is better. Ms. Aswathi concluded her talk with some
tips for maintaining Healthy Relationships. What is needed is :
> Acceptance not avoidance.
> Adaptation not adjustment.
>Empathy not sympathy
>Assertiveness not aggressiveness.
She concluded that one need not cling to a relationship if there is no scope for one's growth and happiness. Toxic relationships are the most harmful. Our self respect is not to be sacrificed under any circumstances. One should always stand up for one's rights. Many such ideas were put forward by the resource person which the audience felt valuable. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by Bhagya Murali, I B.Ed student and a member of GCTE's Women's Cell.
