The Thiruvananthapuram District Administration places great importance on the enhancement of youth through various activities. It is with this aim that they have come up with the SFS scheme and the plan to introduce their two new projects NEERURAVA AND PRISM among the young
enthusiastic minds. The Students for Society (SFS) is a project that is included in this year’s budget, which aims at finding out the problems in society and bringing them to the attention of the authorities in an attempt to find solutions. This programme also guarantees a strong
connection between society and the colleges. It is indeed a visionary move that promotes value based education and the creation of socially responsible citizens who make worthy contributions to the society.

Following the inaugural ceremony, the interns who accompanied the sub-collector introduced the gathering to the various projects that are on the way. The following are some of the major projects that come under the SFS scheme:
• Project Arise
• Project Aksharam
• Project Ithal
• Project Koottu
• Project Neerurava
• Project Prism
• Project Punchiri
. Project Thalir
• Project X

Project Neerurava is a youth driven initiative which aims to protect and preserve ‘Amrit Sarovars’, thereby promoting water conservation and ecosystem restoration in the areas
adjoining the Sarovars. It stresses our collective obligation to the responsible global water stewards and the need to continue to improve our water quality presevation and enhancement
efforts. Some of the activities under the project include:
1. Cleaning up Amrit Sarovars
2. Conducting water awareness rally
3. Monitoring the waste dumping at Amrit Sarovars
4. Assessing water quality
5. Enhancing tourism and other allied activities.

PRISM is an inclusion project which aims to create safe and inclusive campus for gender minorities. The project envisages fostering a culture of acceptance among the youth, thereby creating sustainable support system and an inclusive campus for students who belong to the minority groups SOGNESC (sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex
characteristics). It also aims at constituting a gender inclusion cell that can create a safe space on campus where students of all gender identities feel welcomed, supported and respected.

After introding Project NEERURAVA and Project PRISM, there was an open discussion with the interns, wherein they answered all the doubts raised by the students and teachers. With this, the inaugural function came to an end. It was indeed a great opportunity for the staff and students of GCTE, Thycaud, to be a part of such a Government scheme that widens the scope of student participation for social welfare.
