SCHOOL INTERNSHIP: Week 1 (9 October 2023 - 13 October 2023)

            Day 1 - OCTOBER 9, 2023

                The New Beginning


Today was the first day of our first phase B.Ed school internship. It was with great anxiety and excitement that I entered the gates of G.G.H.S.S. Cotton Hill. The Headmistress and the teachers were really welcoming and comfortable to talk to. Once the attendance register was signed, a small meeting was arranged for us. This gave us a clear idea about the classes and our duties in the school.

My first class was for the students of 8H. Rosa Parks Sat Still was the lesson to be taught. The lesson plan and teaching aid were ready. The experience was great. About the instructional part, I had to introduce two concepts - Racial Discrimination and the Black Vs White struggle. I could not go beyond the teacher reading part of the lesson plan. The final hour was for 9K students. As suggested by my supervising teacher, I dictated notes for them.

At the end of Day 1, I strongly feel a need for improvement in terms of better planning and time management. Hopefully, I could do well in the coming days.

            Day 2 - October 10, 2023

              The calm after a storm!

After a 'not so satisfied' Day 1, it's Day 2 at G.G.H.S.S Cotton Hill. We started to get substitution hours. It actually felt great to sit with the Headmistress and the experienced teachers to plan the daily duties. We feel that we are indeed a very significant part of the school.

I had a close talk with my 8H students today. I got to know that majority of them faced difficulty in following the class since I used English language more than Malayalam. The instruction that I got from my supervising teachers was to use English as the medium of instruction. However, now that the students raised such a concern, I decided to go in with a bilingual approach so that the students get the content completely and also the exposure to English language. Class at 9K went well; ICT facility in the class made teaching easier and effective.

DAY 2 was such a calm and satisfying day for me. 

            Day 3 : October 11, 2023

   Realization of the chinks in my armour 

The day began by collecting the substitution hours from the HM. This, I feel, is at once an advantage and a disadvantage. The best part of these periods is that we get to cover the portions faster. However,  it is definitely tiring since continuous hours are to be spent in various classes. 

Time Management is still a problem that I have to tackle. Also, the last hours are relatively shorter. We are supposed to go for our II semester University exams the next week. Along with this, there is an extra stress about completing the portions at school before December exams. It was with a lot of such thoughts that the day ended.

             Day 4 : October 12, 2023

                      Confusions!!!

As days pass by, I adapt as much as I can to the school environment. The place is becoming familiar and comfortable. I feel that my role as a teacher is getting stronger day by day. To be addressed and respected as a teacher feels great. 
As usual, there were 2 classes for me. The students were a bit restless today. At times I feel like they are not at all interested to be in class; but somedays, it is just the opposite. Their attitude really influences my teaching. During the last hour,  the students would have reached their saturation level. It is really difficult to manage classes in the last hour. The fluctuating attitude of the learners really confuse me. This is also a reminder to replan and restructure classes in ways that will appeal to them more.

          Day 5 : OCTOBER 13, 2023

             A Temporary Goodbye 

           And it's the end of Week 1.

Since our university exams commence from the coming Wednesday onwards, our college gave us a break from the internship. I had to conclude what I was teaching so that it won't be difficult for the teachers to continue. I was able to complete a full chapter for 8H; however the prose lesson in 9K was too long to finish. My teacher was okay with continuing from where I stopped. I was happy when my supervising teacher called me and wished me luck for the examination. The first week of internship thus came to an end.

PATHWAY - SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS PROGRAMME - 17, 18, 19 January, 2023.

     PATHWAY - SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS                       PROGRAMME 2022-23 The Department of Minority Welfare that works under the Kerala Government had organised a three day session with the title "Pathway - Social Life Wellness Programme" at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Trivandrum on January 17th , 18th and 19th, 2023. Our college was one among the selected institutions to host the programme.  On the first day, after the morning prayer, Dr. Isaac Paul, Assistant Professor of GCTE, welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was delivered by the principal, Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar. The programme was officially inaugurated by Shri G Madhavadas, Ward Counciller of Thycaud. "THODAYAM" : ARTS DAY - 21, 22 February, 2023

                Thodayam : Arts Fest   Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, witnessed an amazing, colourful gala, THODAYAM 2023 , on 21 and 22 February, 2023 at the UGC hall of the campus.  The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song by Mariya of I B.Ed. Mrs Asha Krishan, the Arts Convenor of GCTE, delivered the welcome speech. This was followed by Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, the Principal's presidential address. The chief guest of the day was Smt. Vinitha V, Lecturer in Dance, Sree Swathi Tirunal College of Music. She inaugurated the event and also performed for the audience. It was indeed a visual treat to witness the magic of her dance performance.
