SCHOOL INTERNSHIP : Week 2 (31 October 2023 - 3 November 2023)

            DAY 6 : 31 October 2023

           A 'not so excited' comeback

And we are back to school after a long exam break. To be honest, I wasn't really excited to go back. But once I reached the school, students started coming in to talk to all of us. Some of them were really happy that we came back, while some others weren't much excited. 

The first thing that I did today was exam invigilitation. I was given duty in 10F for their unit test. This was my first time invigilation for a proper exam, and I was really excited. 

There are a few things that I realized today. First, when we are a teacher, our perspective is really different. Each corner and side of the class provides unique views. Standing at the back, close to the wall, I believe, gives a bird's- eye view of the entire class. This perspective is a newly got one. Also, I understood how boring exam invigilation is🙂. Once the question рареrs are distributed, there is almost nothing that one could do. I tried as much as I can to maintain discipline and the smooth conduct of the exam. 

After the duty, I engaged the 8H classroom. It surprised me that some of the students were the least responsive when entered the class. There were a few excited faces in between; however, I expected a more welcoming attitude from them. The increasing number of late comers to the class is a problem, especially in 9th standard. This, I feel, really affects the flow of my class.

DAY 6 was thus a 'not so good, not so bad' day.

             DAY 7 : 1 November 2023

          The right attitude is everything 

Today being Kerala Piravi, there was a special assembly in the school auditorium. The teachers organised several programs in which numerous students participated. There were songs, group dances, and drama performed by the staff and students. The day began well.

Exam duties are common these days. The attitude of students to student teacher invigilators are really different. Most of them do not even care that we are in the class. Neverthless, I tried as much as I can to maintain discipline.

Classes went pretty well today. The projector in my 9th class started disfunctioning. This is a challenge for sure since ICT is crucial in the effectiveness of certain lessons. Some of the students have still not adapted to my classroom scenario. This troubles me a bit. Some students adopt an indifferent attitude towards learning. They refuse to bring text books and do not care to listen. A good classroom environment is crucial for the smooth completion of portions.

              DAY 8 : 2 November 2023

    English - not a cakewalk to the students 

DAY 8 was not such a happening day. The day began with exam invigilation in 10th standard. About today's classes, the greatest concern is their difficulty in using English language properly. Many of them lack the base in English vocabulary and grammar. This, I feel, hinders them from expressing in class. I believe that the students get the content well, but they fail to express it or even answer the questions due to language barrier. I try to give a  bilingual classroom atmosphere considering the level of students. But I feel that proper guidance and remedial teaching is extremely necessary for these students.

              DAY 9 : 3 November 2023

         More familiarity, more confusions

When the first phase internship approached its nineth day, I could clearly draw out the changes and differences from DAY 1. The place is more familiar to me now; classroom corridors and buildings are now close to the teacher in me. I also feel that I have evolved in multiple ways. In terms of teaching, I have started to figure out what works and what do not. This, I feel, is great achievement. This realization is helping me plan my classroom activities.
