SCHOOL INTERNSHIP: Week 6 ( 27 November 2023 - 1 December 2023)

         DAY 25 : 27 November 2023

   The right pace and one step at a time...

I could finish off the prose lesson today at 8H. This leaves me with just one chapter remaining for the Christmas exam. I make it a point that I do not rush for the sake of completing portions. I want my students to understand every minute detail of a stanza, before proceeding to the furthur ones. I also make sure to stop and take a break whenever I feel the students need one. 

Classes at 9K are also going good. I have got two additional chapters to complete, other than those included in the Christmas exam portions. 2 lessons (one prose and one poetry), 1 model and 2 grammar lessons are pending in 9K. Classes are going good at 9D too. I will soon finish off the portions there .

There is undoubtedly a pressure from all sides to complete the portions as soon as possible. However, I try as much as I can, not to rush in a way that the students fail to get the content. 

         DAY 26 : 28 November 2023

         Teacher - a scaffolder indeed !

I took my first model lesson - Direct Instruction Model - with the topic Pronouns and their forms, at 8H. I personally like to take classes using the three models of teaching. The students clearly lack a base in English grammar. This resulted in me explaining the basics right from the beginning. However, once the instructions were given, they started responding actively. Activity cards where distributed for testing their previous knowledge and to check their understanding. I had prepared an attractive chart that listed the seven personal Pronouns. An additional chart was used to display the three forms of the pronoun; flashcards were also used. I believe that the class went well. I am sure that the students were atleast able to identify nouns and pronouns in sentences. I kept repeating points and asked questions continuously to keep them engaged with the lesson. 

Class at 9K went good. I missed the class at 9D since their class teacher wanted that period. I also collected and corrected the 9K students' notebooks. Necessary corrections were also suggested.

         DAY 27 : 29 November 2023

             The Innovative Lesson

I decided to make my first lesson plan on the poem "First Showers" an innovative one. The newly suggested pedagogy of my teacher was utilized here. There were two model readings, one with their books closed and the other with their books open. The silent reading was done by asking them to stand up with their textbooks. The major comprehension questions were displayed beforehand. I then divided the class into four groups with interesting names:

                  Group 1 - RAIN
                  Group 2 - SNOW
                  Group 3 - SLEET
                  Group 4 - HAIL

This actually improved their competitive spirit. I was so happy so see the students work very well in groups. Their effort was totally appreciable and all the four groups came up with right answers. The Innovative steps followed as part of this pedagogy was truly effective in transacting the content and also in developing various skills in the learners.

          DAY 28 : 30 November 2023

Inauguration of State Level Shastrolsavam.                              2023
Today marked the inauguration of the State School Science - Mathematics - Social Science - Work Experience - IT Fair 2023. The Director of General Education, Sri. Shanavas IAS, hoisted the flag and the event was inaugurated by Sri. A N Shamseer, Honourable Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly. The inauguration was unique in that water sensitive electric lamps were used instead of the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. A huge crowd was part of the inaugural event.

  State Level Shastrolsavam 2023 - Day 1

I couldn't make it to school today. I had to take leave with the permission of Principal and the Headmistress.

FILM FESTIVAL AND BEST FILM CRITIC                         COMPETITION   A film festival and a film critic competition were held by the Film Club of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, on 23 November, 2022 at the UGC hall of the campus.      PATHWAY - SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS                       PROGRAMME 2022-23 The Department of Minority Welfare that works under the Kerala Government had organised a three day session with the title "Pathway - Social Life Wellness Programme" at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Trivandrum on January 17th , 18th and 19th, 2023. Our college was one among the selected institutions to host the programme.  On the first day, after the morning prayer, Dr. Isaac Paul, Assistant Professor of GCTE, welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was delivered by the principal, Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar. The programme was officially inaugurated by Shri G Madhavadas, Ward Counciller of Thycaud. "THODAYAM" : ARTS DAY - 21, 22 February, 2023

                Thodayam : Arts Fest   Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, witnessed an amazing, colourful gala, THODAYAM 2023 , on 21 and 22 February, 2023 at the UGC hall of the campus.  The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song by Mariya of I B.Ed. Mrs Asha Krishan, the Arts Convenor of GCTE, delivered the welcome speech. This was followed by Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, the Principal's presidential address. The chief guest of the day was Smt. Vinitha V, Lecturer in Dance, Sree Swathi Tirunal College of Music. She inaugurated the event and also performed for the audience. It was indeed a visual treat to witness the magic of her dance performance.
