ONE DAY TRIP TO KANYAKUMARI ✨🧳🚞 : 22 March 2024

          One day trip to Kanyakumari 

A one-day trip to Kanyakumari for the II B.Ed students of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, was organized on 22 March, 2024. There were four destinations planned - Chitharal Jain Temple, Thiruparappu Waterfalls, Pathmanabhapuram Palace, and finally Kanyakumari. The journey started at 6:30 am from the college. Four teachers accompanied us - Kumar Sir, Omanasheelan Sir, Chithralekha Teacher and Sreeja Teacher.

   DESTINATION 1 : The Chitharal Jain                                           Temple 
The Chitharal Jain Temple, also known as Chitharal Malai Kovil, is a historic site located in Tamil Nadu, India. This temple complex dates back to the 9th century AD and is known for its rock-cut architecture and ancient Jain sculptures. The temple is situated in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, near the town of Marthandam. It is perched on a hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

The site includes a rock-cut cave temple with intricate carvings and sculptures. The temple showcases the Dravidian style of rock-cut architecture.The Chitharal Jain Temple is a popular tourist attraction, especially for those interested in history, architecture, and spirituality. The hike up the hill to reach the temple is also a draw for nature enthusiasts. Visiting the Chitharal Jain Temple offers a glimpse into the region's rich cultural and religious history, as well as an opportunity to appreciate the ancient art and architecture of Tamil Nadu.

DESTINATION 2 : Thiruparappu Waterfalls 

Thiruparappu Waterfalls is a picturesque waterfall located in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. The waterfall has a height of approximately 50 feet, with water cascading down a rocky cliff. Surrounded by lush greenery and scenic landscapes, it's a popular spot for nature lovers and photographers.Thiruparappu Waterfalls is a picturesque waterfall located in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. It attracts numerous tourists for its natural beauty and is also a great spot for picnics and family outings. Facilities for visitors include a children's swimming pool and changing rooms.

DESTINATION 3 : Padmanabhapuram                                         Palace

This was the destination I was most excited about. However, by the time we reached there, the palace closed for lunch break. Staying there only meant waste of time; or else we had to compromise with the other destination visits. So we decided to drop this plan and headed straight to Kanyakumari.

          DESTINATION 4 : Kanyakumari 
Kanyakumari Beach, located at the southernmost tip of India in the state of Tamil Nadu, is known for its unique geographical location where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean meet. The beach is famous for its stunning sunrise and sunset views, especially during the full moon when both can be seen simultaneously. The nearby attractions include the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue, and the Kanyakumari Temple.
The boat ride to Vivekananda Rock Memorial was the most exciting part of this phase. It was a new experience, adventurous and exciting. The time spent in the memorial gifted us many good memories. 

After viewing a not so bad sunset, we walked along the beach and also went for shopping. The night was calm and peaceful, the perfect ending to the one day trip.

FILM FESTIVAL AND BEST FILM CRITIC                         COMPETITION   A film festival and a film critic competition were held by the Film Club of Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, on 23 November, 2022 at the UGC hall of the campus. By 3.30 pm, the student teachers and teachers of GCTE assembled at the UGC hall and the film screening began. Two short films were chosen for the screening - Aasai directed by Sam and Tippen Box directed by Karthik Gopal. Both were Tamil short films with English subtitles.      PATHWAY - SOCIAL LIFE WELLNESS                       PROGRAMME 2022-23 The Department of Minority Welfare that works under the Kerala Government had organised a three day session with the title "Pathway - Social Life Wellness Programme" at Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Trivandrum on January 17th , 18th and 19th, 2023. Our college was one among the selected institutions to host the programme.  On the first day, after the morning prayer, Dr. Isaac Paul, Assistant Professor of GCTE, welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was delivered by the principal, Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar. The programme was officially inaugurated by Shri G Madhavadas, Ward Counciller of Thycaud. "THODAYAM" : ARTS DAY - 21, 22 February, 2023

                Thodayam : Arts Fest   Government College of Teacher Education, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, witnessed an amazing, colourful gala, THODAYAM 2023 , on 21 and 22 February, 2023 at the UGC hall of the campus.  The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song by Mariya of I B.Ed. Mrs Asha Krishan, the Arts Convenor of GCTE, delivered the welcome speech. This was followed by Dr. V K Santhosh Kumar Sir, the Principal's presidential address. The chief guest of the day was Smt. Vinitha V, Lecturer in Dance, Sree Swathi Tirunal College of Music. She inaugurated the event and also performed for the audience. It was indeed a visual treat to witness the magic of her dance performance.
